| English Speaking Activity Day @CarmelDivineGraceFoundationSchool- February 25th |
| |
Health and Fitness was our theme for the second English |
| Speaking Activity Day on February 25th. Our dedicated team of English Ambassadors created, prepared and coordinated many of the activities on the day. We were also ably supported by the Math and Physics departments who provided student assistants to operate the Fitness Clinic. |
| |
The day began with Morning Assembly where two sixth form |
| students performed an interesting dramatic skit based on Snow White and her magical mirror to highlight the importance of keeping a healthy image. Then, the day’s activities were promoted using a PowerPoint presentation and some role play by two junior girls. |
At recess, we had two game centres which were designed |
| and made by students. One was a 3-D model of the food pyramid onto which players had to attach various food items in the correct food category. The second activity was a colourful mix and match card game. Students enjoyed the challenge and the prizes, too. |
| |
The main event burst into life at lunchtime with a connected |
| series of activities on health and fitness. Students began by measuring their height and weight, then proceeded to the BMI clinic where Math students helped them to calculate their BMI and offered healthy advice on diet and exercise. From there, they went to the next clinic to check their heart and breathing rates. There were notice boards with plenty of information to assist students on their results. |
| |
The next stage proved to be the biggest hurdle for many as |
| they needed to break into a sweat by doing an Aerobics workout. To get students involved, Principal Lam, Mr. Paul and Mr. Chui all demonstrated various moves to the hearty enjoyment of staff and student onlookers. Eventually, other students joined in. The reward for completing the workout was a free homemade energy bar and healthy drink. |
| |
While this was going on, many students were also queuing |
| for the very popular “Junk Food Alley” game which involved knocking over boxes of junk food to score points and win a prize and a chop. |
At the end of the day we repeated the lunchtime activities, |
| and had a very special star performance from Mr. Chan who demonstrated some masterful Tai Chi movements to a large group of delighted students. The whole day culminated in an interclass competition which involved a quiz and a humorous physical challenge with students trying to race with a basketball between their legs and keep a hoolah hoop spinning around their waists. |
| |
Overall, the activities were well attended and enjoyed by all. |
| Congratulations to all the English Ambassadors, Math and Science teachers and students, and the participants for making it a wonderful occasion to celebrate English Language use at CDGFSS. |
