Water Rocket and Egg-Landing Competitions
49 students from Secondary 1-4 of our school participated in the Water Rocket and Egg-Landing Competitions on 29 and 30 September 2008. The activity was organized by the Robotics Club of the school so as to celebrate the successful spacewalk of the Chinese astronauts lately.
As rocket is the only means of transportation to the space, by designing their own rockets for the Water Rocket Competition, our students learnt the basic principle of Newton’s law of motion, aerodynamics and fluid mechanic.
As for the Egg-Landing Competition, students needed to design a device which protected the eggs from breaking when landed, imitating the space cabin. Through this competition, students developed a better understanding on the principle of the mechanics of materials, aerodynamics and structural engineering.
Both competitions are beneficial to students who wish to enhance their knowledge about science.
