English Speaking Activity Day@Carmel Divine Grace Foundation Secondary School Monopoly, UNO and Twisters are no strangers to all of us. Not many people, however, really know how these games were invented. The English Ambassador Team at Carmel Divine Grace Foundation Secondary School organised the first English Speaking Activity Day on 23 October, 2008, in which students enjoyed fun games and knew more about these famous games.
The morning started off with a series of promotional activities and the video sharing of different subject teachers. They shared about their childhood toys and games. Some interesting examples included “Super Primitive Football Game”, “Paper Dolls” and “Gundam”.
At recess, students could choose from the 15 cartoon theme songs to dedicate to their friends with warm messages. In addition, they joined a fun quiz game in which they were required to go around the school to look for posters about different games and to answer the questions on them.
S.1 to S.3 students participated in a reading sharing workshop led by 6 native-speaking English tutors. They shared their favourite books with one another and chatted happily from periods 2 to 5.
At lunchtime, 3 game stalls were put up by the English Ambassador Team and the Chemistry Department. Students participated and won big prizes in the fun games while using the language.
The most exciting activity came at the school hall in the afternoon. S.1 to S.3 students competed in a board game competition. Some English Ambassadors patiently taught their fellow schoolmates how to play the new board games such as “Ticket to Ride”, “Rummikub”, “Chicken Cha Cha Cha!”, “Twisters”, “Ark”, etc.
